Why Dog Dreams are Sexyโ€ฆ๐Ÿ˜‰

Many of us may have often wondered what our dogs dream about when we see their legs move in running motion in their sleep (quite amusing). Or maybe you have even heard a sleepy โ€œwoofโ€ or a subtle growl. As a pet owner, itโ€™s natural to have asked yourself, โ€œdo dogs dream?โ€ and the answer is yes, they do. Research points to the fact that dogs have dreams just as humans do. The tricky part is, itโ€™s hard to tell if they can actually remember what they dream about.

Is He Dreaming About Birds, Squirrels, Catsโ€ฆ?

Since our furry friends cannot tell us exactly whatโ€™s going on in their heads, our guess is that they are dreaming of their daily activities or things that are of interests to them i.e. protecting you from dangers, being mischievous, warding off intruders, chasing cats, squirrels, birds, lizards, snakes or maybe even taking a walk and playing with other doggies. If your dog is extremely attached to you, it is likely that he is dreaming of your face, your smell, and of probably pleasing or annoying you. When you see your dogโ€™s legs appear to be running during deep sleep, it certainly implies that they are dreaming about the type of daily activities that they are used to or would probably enjoy.

Typically dreaming happens in deep sleep, and because they have a shorter sleep cycle, they probably donโ€™t have the kind of intense dreams that humans do. It is quite endearing to watch your dog sleep and simply imagine if they are dreaming.

Dogs basically dream doggy things. So while a pointer will point at dream birds, Dobermans will chase dream burglars, the size of the dog may even determine the size of the dream. Since dog dreams have a similar pattern with humans, they may even have nightmares just as humans do.

So, if you feel like your dog is moving too much or may be having seizures during their sleep, it may be time to check in with your Vet to make sure everything is โ€˜Okayโ€™ in dreamland.

Waking up your dog while they are clearly in deep sleep will not harm your dog, but it could startle them.

If your dog is prone to anxiety, it may be in your best interest to simply let sleeping dogs lie.

On the other hand, if your dog appears to be having a bad dream, just try to gently wake him up or place your hand near his nose so he can smell you and feel comforted.

Does your dog have any silly movements while asleep? Have you noticed your dog acting out any dreams? Share your experience in the comments below!
